"That's a Song"
(When a Poem meets a melody, that's where you'll find a song)

Lyric Sheet

Top Line

Style:   Ballad, commenting on the age old fact, that when lyrics, and melodies sit well together, they become an inseparable marriage.   Bob will collaborate to fix the bit at the beginning that sounds too much like the David Gates song, "When A Picture paints A Thousand Words".  in Bob's own words: "It's been diving me nuts for years!!"    Finished  (That's not technically true, because of  those first 4 bars!) So...It's up for 50/50 collaboration  MP3 Loaded Suitable for Elton John,  possibly Robbie Williams.

"American Icons"

Presented in 2 Styles: A traditional Christian style hymn, celebrating the Sabbath,  AND a  big band swing song, discussing the random nature of life, luck, and the elements of chance we all face. Believe it or not, both numbers use exactly the the same melody, and chords,  with drastically different results. Both sets of lyrics can be used with either style    Suitable for Robbie Williams. In fact this song might have been made for Robbie Williams. Would suite Sir Cliff Richard even better,  because of the two styles, but my absolute dream artist to sing the swing version has to be Kevin Spacey.  I know people reading would say: What about Michael Buble,  well yes,  but  he's not close enough to the "Rat  Pack" persona for me.  But hey! if he insists on singing my song who am I to argue??

"Let's Cancel"
(This Fantasy

Lyric Sheet

Top Line

Style:   Power Ballard, or easy going swing , depending on the treatment. Telling a story of unrequited love, and the realisation that the romance was based on role play, and wasted vanity.  Finished, but still up for 50/50 collaboration.  With the right arrangement, this could be a really great song for Rod Stewart.  MP3 Loaded

"Somethin' New"

Style: Gentle Boogie/Shuffle And/Or Strut dance.  Falls into the novelty, or comedy bracket, but works well as big band swing or jazz.

INSPIRATION. Bob says his inspiration to write this song came from when he was a Heathrow Airport Fireman, on a training course at Stansted Airport.  The fire service college hosted officers from all over the world.  Bob took his turn at playing the organ, for a sing-a-long at the local pub.  Everyone had their favourite sing-a-long songs, depending on where they came from, but Bob observed, that he always got the biggest response, when he played Hubert Gregg's song: "Maybe It's Because I'm  Londoner."  Everyone knew the words, or had at least heard it some where before,  and wanted to join in.  Bob concluded  then, that this must be one the most famous songs in the world. " Born and Bred"  is his tribute to that phenomenon.

Writer's note:   "this song finishes the message started by the timeless classic: "Maybe It's Because I'm a Londoner."  Written by Hubert Gregg in 1946 and sung by Bud Flanagan. It has to be said,  Hubert's song  is rather short, and my song pays respectful homage to it by echoing  that very statement, 'Maybe It's Because I AM   a Londoner.'   The rest of the lyrics are completely original.  I don't think  Hubert Gregg would mind too much."

The 3rd version is a voluntary demo by an unknown arranger/singer, but known to Bob. This interpretation serves to highlight just how different a song can sound when such a person  is given free reign.   More importantly,  how  crucial it is for the writer to  maintain  moral , as well as intellectual ownership.  The 2/4 - double time   chorus is  completely   at odds  with  Bob's intentions, and was met with  the words:  "Trust Me." Bob's glad he didn't.

"Born & Bred" also has a place in the musical version of  "A Group Of Humans", as a show song     MP3s Loaded  Finished.  Suitable for Suggs.  Or any number of  "Londoners"
